Website Design and E-Commerce

User Experience (UX) design is commonly defined as the process to design experiences and interactions with a digital or physical product that is useful, easy, and enjoyable.

User Interface (UI) design is commonly defined as the process of designing this visual look of the product and the functionality of the interaction.

In this module, students will be introduced to UX and UI design, the role of designers, and the design process. Participants will also learn industry-standard methods for how to approach the design of a user interface and key theories and frameworks that underlie the design of most interfaces being used today.

To reinforce UX and UI design principles, students will assess and provide analysis on the design of an existing product and websites. Through a series of case studies on commercial systems, we will illustrate the benefits of good design. We will also demonstrate how the costs of bad design can often be severe (in user experience, money, and even human lives).

Participants will gain a high-level of understanding of the user-interface design process.

This module will empower participants with the tools required to create their own website.

During this module, the students will learn:

• The functions of web languages and elements

• The process of web hosting

• The design for user and screen conventions

• HTML: Organization of page content

• Application of typography for web

• Website domain, hosting and FTP

This module will empower students to learn how to use the most popular platform for website development. As of March 2018, 30% of all the websites in the wold are powered by Wordpress. (Source: www.wpengine.com)

Wordpress is one of the most commonly used Content Management System (CMS) in the world. This module will allow students to learn about their power and full flexibility to create any type of website. Participants will learn a wide range of themes and plugins to increase its functionality to a great extent.

At the end of this module, participants will have their own website that will be hosted in MTC servers. This website will serve as the foundations for the next module when they start their online business.

In Singapore, there are currently 3.12 million E-commerce users with 998,000 more expected to be shopping online by 2021. With potentially over 4 million active consumers buying online with an average spend of $2,522.32 each per year, there's no better time to start or take your business online. This module will empower participants to start their own online businesses.

In this module, participants will learn how to start up a business online using the existing platforms available and will learn from experts in each platform and will try to arrange visits to their offices:

• Shopify

• Carousell

• Shopee

• Facebook Marketplace

Participants will also learn how to:

• Add products and products' information

• Select a theme

• Customise menus

• Set up shipping options

• Collect payments online

• Configure taxes

• Install plugins

• Manage orders, inventory, and sales from the dashboard

At the end of this module, students will create their own "virtual shop" to market their services or products.
