Empowering Youths Through Creativity, Technology, and Storytelling
At Make The Change, we believe that technology is most powerful when it is used with purpose. In our recent Augmented Reality (AR) Program with CDAC, students had the opportunity to explore how digital tools can go beyond mere consumption to become platforms for creativity, expression, and problem-solving, bringing ideas to life
.
Over the course of the program, students were introduced to AR and guided through a hands-on journey with iPads and Reality Composer. What started as curiosity quickly grew into confidence as they learned how to design, build, and present their own interactive AR experiences.
From Understanding to Creating
The program began by helping students understand what Augmented Reality is and how it is used in everyday life. Through real-world examples and interactive demonstrations, students discovered how AR blends the physical and digital worlds in meaningful ways.
With this foundation, they moved into creating their own AR projects. Students explored how to place 3D objects in space, animate them, and design interactive scenes. For many, this was their first time building something immersive, and the excitement was immediate.
Turning Ideas into Stories
Beyond technical skills, the program placed a key focus on storytelling. Students learned how to structure their ideas into clear narratives, thinking about how users would experience their AR creations.
They explored:
How to plan a story with a beginning, middle, and ending
How to make their ideas engaging and interactive
How to communicate a message through design
This shift from “just creating” to “creating with purpose” was where many students began to truly shine.
Using Technology to Solve Real Problems
A core part of the Make The Change approach is helping students see themselves as changemakers. In this program, students were encouraged to consider real-world challenges and how AR could be used to address them.
Through guided activities, they:
Identified problems relevant to their lives or communities
Brainstormed creative solutions
Prototyped their ideas using AR
This helped students realize that technology is not just about entertainment, but also about making a difference.
Building Confidence Through Showcase
The program concluded with a showcase and presentation session, where students shared their AR projects with their peers.
This was more than just presenting their work. It was about:
Building confidence in expressing their ideas
Taking pride in what they created
Learning how to give and receive feedback
Seeing students step forward, explain their ideas, and celebrate each other’s work was a powerful reminder of how much they had grown in a short time.
More Than Just a Tech Program
While students gained valuable skills in AR creation, the program was ultimately about something deeper.
They developed:
Creativity and storytelling skills
Confidence in sharing ideas
Problem-solving and critical thinking
A mindset of using technology for good
At Make The Change, we are committed to designing learning experiences that go beyond skills and focus on impact. This AR program is one example of how we empower youth not just to learn but to create, express, and lead.
