Real Learning Continues Beyond the Classroom

One of the greatest measures of success for any educational programme is what happens after the workshop ends.

Do students remember what they learned?

Do they apply those skills?

Do they have the confidence to turn ideas into action?

For us at Make The Change, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing learning continue beyond the classroom.

Following our recent Young Entrepreneurs Lab in partnership with PPIS, we were delighted to learn that many of the students continued developing their entrepreneurial projects and recently showcased them during Kampung Bijak, a vibrant student-led community event organised by PPIS.

It was a wonderful reminder that meaningful learning does not end when a workshop finishes. It grows when students are given opportunities to apply what they have learned in authentic, real-world situations.

A Student-Led Entrepreneurial Village

Kampung Bijak is a vibrant "smart village" conceptualised and managed by students from the 7oaks Student Care Centre.

Built around the theme of entrepreneurship, the event gave students the opportunity to become young entrepreneurs by designing, planning and operating their own interactive booths for guests, families and members of the community.

Across eight different booths, students showcased games, activities and products that they had created themselves.

Beyond entrepreneurship, the event also celebrated Bulan Bahasa, encouraging students to appreciate and use the Malay language while showcasing performances that celebrated Malay culture and heritage.

The result was a lively community celebration where creativity, culture, and entrepreneurship came together.

Putting Learning Into Practice

During the Young Entrepreneurs Lab, students explored the complete entrepreneurial journey.

They learned how to:

• Understand customer needs

• Generate creative business ideas

• Build a company as a team

• Create products with purpose

• Develop branding and marketing materials

• Make pricing and profit decisions

• Communicate confidently with customers

• Operate a mini business booth

These were not simply classroom activities.

They were practical experiences designed to prepare students for opportunities exactly like Kampung Bijak.

Seeing students confidently applying these skills in a real event was incredibly inspiring.

Instead of practising with hypothetical scenarios, they became real entrepreneurs, interacting with visitors, explaining their ideas, managing their booths and taking ownership of their projects.

That is exactly the type of authentic learning experience we hope every participant will have.

Learning That Builds Confidence

Entrepreneurship is not only about starting businesses.

It is about developing the confidence to solve problems, communicate ideas, collaborate with others, and create value for the people around us.

Throughout Kampung Bijak, students demonstrated many future-ready skills nurtured during the Young Entrepreneurs Lab.

They showed:

🤝 Teamwork by planning and managing their booths together.

🗣️ Communication by confidently interacting with visitors and explaining their products.

🎯 Leadership by taking ownership of their responsibilities.

💰 Entrepreneurial thinking by considering customer experience and creating value for their community.

Watching these skills come to life outside the classroom was incredibly rewarding.

Why Experiential Learning Matters

Experiential learning gives students opportunities to move beyond theory and tackle real challenges.

Rather than memorizing concepts, students make decisions, collaborate with peers, adapt to unexpected situations, and reflect on their experiences.

When learning is connected to authentic experiences, confidence grows naturally.

Kampung Bijak is a wonderful example of how giving young people ownership over meaningful projects allows them to develop skills that extend far beyond entrepreneurship.
