This October, we had the pleasure of hosting two students, Sona and Lafaye, from Christ Church Secondary School as part of the Young Changemaker Programme. Despite their short stay, they parted with invaluable skills and unique experiences that will continue to shape their personal growth into the future.

A key highlight of their internship experience was their involvement in the Social Innovation Hackathon using Apple Technoligies (Secondary School edition). Together with Apple and AsiaPac Technology Pte Ltd (a Keppel Ltd company), the hackathon aimed to empower youths to imagine, express, and innovate through digital storytelling. Both of the interns navigated a steep learning curve as they explored different digital mediums within a limited timeframe. Their hands-on approach, strong teamwork led them to emerge as one of the runner-up teams in the hackathon.

Beyond the hackathon, Lafaye volunteered as a facilitator at the Digital for Life Festival 2025, representing Make the Change. She conducted mini digital drawing sessions for members of the public, teaching participants how to create digital artwork using Procreate on iPad. Facilitating individuals from diverse age groups, Lafaye required patience, adaptability and clear communication. Despite the challenges of maintaining engagement in a public setting, she took it in her stride and found the experience to be deeply fulfilling.
Lafaye’s reflection
"The overall experience was quite fun, especially when we went to Apple. Meeting new people was interesting as well, as we get to understand them and know how they work differently from ourselves."
Sona’s reflection
"I learnt how we can be Changemakers by thinking of solutions for problems faced by different communities through empathy and critical thinking, which I feel are important qualities in a person."
Sona and Lafaye’s active involvement reflects the very values and principles that the Young Changemaker Programme has stood for. We look forward to more curious youths to lead and drive meaningful change.
