- Video Learning Practices for Educators - EdpuzzleWebinar
Last Thursday, on 2nd June 2022, Make The Change, in collaboration with Edpuzzle, hosted our first webinar about Video Learning Practices for Educators. We were honoured to have two well-known educators, Muhammad Imran Bin Hassan and Adam Hill to inspire our Educators on how to use Video Learning effectively. With over 15 years of experience, Imran believes in the value of positioning students in the role of constructors, collaborators, designers, and communicators; and enabling educators to be leaders, collaborators, and facilitators. On the other hand, Adam Hill who is originally born in UK, has lived in Hong Kong and worked at Victoria Shanghai Academy since 2014. During that time, he has held several leadership positions including Head of Year and Innovation Lead. In his presentation, Imran discussed how as educators, it is widely known that having a good relationship with students does directly affect one’s learning experience. In a physical class we achieve this through having conversations with students, making jokes etc. However when classes are moved online or when blended learning method is being used, this element tend to be left out. Adam on the other hand, touched more on the topic of Flipped Learning. He introduced what is Flipped learning and the benefits of integrating it into classes. As entry level information has already been conveyed to students through video learning, the method allows educators to use class time mainly for active learning. Students will be able to engage in deeper discussions, giving full participation during physical lessons. Through their extensive knowledge and expertise in working with students from many different levels, they shared their experiences through an engaging and interactive session. - Erasmus Young Entrepreneur Experience at Make The Change
Make The Change is a proud supporter of the European Commission Erasmus Young Entrepreneurs Global program and for the past 3 months we had a young entrepreneur from Italy, Katharina, she joined us to have a hands-on experience of working in a social enterprise in Singapore. Here at Make The Change, Kat was given the opportunity to oversee and map out the whole customer experience process for our customers. Kat's tasks were to obtain feedback from our customers to understand how they feel throughout the entire customer journey. This helped Make The Change to improve our customer experience and improve our services. As this job scope is rather new to her, Kat was grateful that she was able to learn a lot from the MTC team that guided her in the process. This experience helped opened up her perspective when it comes to customer service and she will implement it when she starts her own company in Italy. We are grateful for Kat's support and we wish her the best in her upcoming venture. If you are looking for experience in the Social Sector, we are always looking for people to join our team. - Marrying Arts with Disability
Art pieces shared by keynote speaker Myra Tam, Arts with the Disabled Association (HK), during her presentation at the Arts & Disability Forum 2017. We are all broken in beautiful ways. Beautifully broken in our own ways. Perhaps that's why there's something charming about the union between arts and disability. There is always gold in between the cracks of vulnerability, making life real for all of us. The Arts, in every form, extend welcoming arms to whoever brave enough to share a story and a layer of himself/herself. Sharing stories help to connect, sharing stories help to heal. How can we then, return the favour and make arts inclusive for every single broken person out there? A prime example is illustrated through the art pieces you see above. The original artwork is the one on the left, and the one on the right is the translated piece. The visual artworks have been translated into a language that includes the blind. By creating a secondary piece of art based on touch, the art piece can be felt and re-interpreted on a whole new level, for both the blind and the seeing. The distinguished speaker goes on to cite another example. By downloading an app, the blind person can navigate around an art space and be notified when there is an artwork displayed nearby. The app will then go on to introduce the artwork to the user. How do we create music for the deaf, and colours for the blind? We still have a long way to go, for disability covers a wide spectrum of different needs. In the process of meeting those needs and making arts inclusive, we will discover a new sphere of art translation that births a myriad of languages for all.

- Stepping into the World of AR and VR
Make The Change recently had the pleasure of hosting an extraordinary workshop that transported young minds into the captivating realms of Augmented Reality (AR) at Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). Our goal was to inspire and nurture the creativity of children, introducing them to the possibilities of the AR MAKR and Clips apps. Join us as we share the highlights of this exciting adventure of digital creation! Unlocking Digital Creativity with Clips: The workshop kicked off with Clips, a tool that allowed the children to string together captivating videos to create seamless storytelling experiences. With our guidance, they explored the art of editing videos and other features of the app, playing around with the different filters and animated posters available. They were also introduced to ‘Live Titles’, which automatically transcribed recorded audio. The children were then tasked with creating a self-introduction video with the skills they had learnt. Unlocking Imagination with AR MAKR: Next, the young participants delved into the realm of AR using AR MAKR, a remarkable app that empowers users to create their own AR experiences. They created animated characters that interacted with the environment and learnt to place virtual objects in their physical space. The AR features of MAKR allowed them to transform ordinary spaces and bring their wildest ideas to life. Guy on beach drinking apple juice drawn by Ashley One of the most interesting projects undertaken by the young participants during the workshop was the creation of a virtual zoo using all that they had learnt so far. With boundless enthusiasm and creativity, they used MAKR to seamlessly blend the real world with digital elements to bring their exotic zoos to life. With the Clips app, they then skillfully crafted a virtual tour, stringing together videos that showcased the animals and their habitats. Step into a world of wonder and imagination as we showcase the incredible works of the young artists who participated in the workshop! Virtual zoo drawn by Allison Virtual zoo video by Lynette Collaboration was also at the heart of our workshop. The workshop fostered a safe environment for the children to work together, share ideas, and allowed them to show support for each other’s creative endeavors. It was heartwarming to witness the friendships that formed and the bonds they made as they explored the world of AR. Our workshop was an unforgettable experience for both the children and our team. Through the AR MAKR and Clips app, we witnessed their imaginations soar, their creativity blossom, and their confidence grow. As they continue their journey into the digital age, we are excited to see how these young minds will shape the future with their newfound knowledge and passion for AR.

- Exploring Creativity Through Digital Drawing with Children's Wishing Well
In a world where creativity knows no bounds, we recently embarked on a heartwarming journey with the children at Children's Wishing Well , guiding them through the wonders of digital art. This program wasn’t just about learning to draw on a screen; it was about discovery, self-expression, and finding joy in the creative process. A New Canvas, A New Beginning Introducing Procreate We began with the basics, introducing the children to Procreate. Procreate might seem advanced for children, but it offers incredible opportunities for creativity, even if they’re not mastering every feature.Watching their eyes light up as they realized the limitless possibilities of this new medium was a reminder that creativity truly begins with curiosity. Dreams on Display: Self-Portraits and Aspirations As we moved into self-portraits, we encouraged the children to imagine themselves in their dream professions. Each stroke of the stylus on the screen was a reflection of their hopes and dreams. Seeing their pride as they brought their dreams to life was truly heartwarming. Singapore Through Their Eyes Singapore became the next focus of our artistic journey. From illustrating their favourite local dishes to envisioning the future of this beloved city, the children poured their hearts into each creation. These sessions were more than just art lessons; they were opportunities for the children to connect with their heritage and express how they see their world evolving. The Power of Gratitude One of the most touching moments came during the creation of digital thank you cards. Here, the children learned that art isn’t just for expression; it’s also a way to show appreciation. The sincerity in their designs was moving, each card a testament to the kindness they wanted to share with others. This exercise reminded us all of the importance of gratitude, a simple yet powerful emotion that can be beautifully conveyed through art. A Culmination of Joy and Thanks In our final session, we asked the children to bring together what they loved most about the program into one last piece. They combined their favourite elements with messages of thanks, creating art that was both joyful and heartfelt. This digital drawing program with Children's Wishing Well was more than just a series of workshops—it was a shared experience of growth, creativity, and connection. The children didn’t just learn how to draw; they learned how to see the world differently, how to dream big, and how to express their gratitude in ways that touched everyone involved. As we look back on this journey, we’re filled with hope for these young minds and the beautiful futures they will create, both on the canvas and beyond. If this journey with Children's Wishing Well has inspired you, we invite you to get involved. Together, we can foster creativity, build confidence, and make a lasting impact on young minds.
